Jacob was a schemer.  The incriminating evidence against him was overwhelming.  When God revealed Himself to Jacob in mercy and grace, Jacob received God's grace and confessed "the LORD shall be my God."  Each one of us has incriminating evidence against us.  We also need a Savior.  We can choose to receive God's mercy and grace and to confess with Jacob "the LORD shall be my God."
